Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 Index

Business / Taxes / Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 Index: The Dow Jones Wilshire 5000 is a market capitalization weighted index of approximately 7,000 stocks. It is the broadest US stock market index, tracking all the stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the American Stock Exchange (AMEX), the Nasdaq Stock Market (Nasdaq), and other US based stocks for which data is readily available. The difference between the index's name (the 5000) and the number of stocks the index tracks at any one time occurs because the number of stocks being traded changes all the time.
